From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
