An individual who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
